What’s your life like?
So one day you were born, you started growing up and meeting people, making friends at preschool or better yet, extending your parents’ friends because most likely, you were becoming friends with their friends’ children. The great thing about these years is that you were creative! You used your imagination to the max without fear of rejection because you were too young to understand that yet. But wait! Things are about to take a turn.
Then you went to elementary school where you were free to choose friends some of which your parents didn’t approve and the story repeated itself through high school. By this time, everything you did was either judged, controlled, approved or disapproved by your parents. Your imagination could no longer travel to all the different places it once did because now that might be wrong and since you understand things better, it’s okay to turn that off. Suddenly, you’re 18 years old and you realize that until this time, you really haven’t had many choices in life, it has been what your parents wanted or what society deemed appropriate.
So, at this stage, it’s a lot easier to continue living life the way it has been for the past 18 years as it would be too much work to make a change. Usually, that is what happens because we are in denial and cannot accept the fact that YOUR life has literally just started. After all, you’re 18 right? While that is true, it is only now that you begin to live life as YOU want and that is a very critical step in moving forward and living life by design. You have to accept it! If you don’t accept it, most of us don’t, you will fall into the trap that many of us are never able to get out of and you will live life by default. So you decide that you will start living life again, this time on your own. However you fear what’s ahead and all the new things that will come into your life, etc.
This is nothing new, it has been happening generation after generation and that’s why it’s not a surprise that the majority of the population, around 97% are stuck in life and only 3% or so succeed. The 97% settle and pretty much accept what society dictates or they want to fulfill someone’s expectations of them. The 3% who succeed return to their childhood ways and aren’t afraid to take risks or be told no or be laughed at. However, as an adult, this is a conscious risk and your parents are no longer there to hold your hand or comfort you when you need to cry about something that went wrong. This is the reason why many of us will not take that leap of faith and do what we really want. Instead, we remain glued to a society that dictates just about everything that should happen with our lives or that it expects of our lives as if they owned us. That is called living life by default.
If you are part of the 97% and are too afraid to take risks and simply want to live or better yet, breathe and occupy space on this earth, there’s already a template for that and most of us use it every day. In fact, it’s overused! However, if you want to live life by design which is the other side of the token, that’s when you need to work and make your own template from scratch because you as a human being are unique and only YOU know what you want out of life, what you like, who you want to become, what you want to have, etc. Therefore, no one and I mean, NO ONE, can design this template for you. You can sit around for the rest of you life waiting for it and it will never happen. You need to make a decision and go to work to become one of the 3% and stop being one of the 97%. Whether you do something or not, your life will continue happening by default or by design as we cannot stop time while we make up our minds.
Make a decision today to transform your life and start living the life you really want to live not what is expected by others.
